The Big Five, or Ocean approach to traits has some weaknesses. It has no theoretical basis and apparently makes no attempt to explain anything. And of course it can't be used as a predictive tool for individual behavior. At any rate, I took the 120 question version online and got back some interesting results.
Yeah; I agree. I'm a critic of the big 5, mostly because it doesn't really tell you anything interesting. You tell it some stuff and then it tells you what you told it. The traits it measures for aren't very interesting in and of themselves, either. I've gotten a lot more mileage out of the MBTI and the enneagram. Those tools have actually helped me understand myself and others. What did your big 5 say?
I took the Big Five but then they axed me a bunch of stuff about where I was from and who I was comparing myself to and a bunch of other non sequitar kinda stuff, and when I didn't play there it wouldn't play back so I got bored and forgot why I was taking the quiz thing in the first place. But it still matters what others think so I probably won't be able to sleep tonight.
This is a blog about the Enneagram of personality. Fresh content is added in fits and bursts. If you are just getting started with the Enneagram and would like to determine your personality type, please follow the advice given here or here.
